I grew up in a Christian home; in fact, my grandfather planted a church in Lansing, Michigan and pastored it for twenty-seven years, and my father has been an assistant pastor since before I was born. My wife’s grandfather was also a church planter; he started five churches in Arizona and New Mexico. My wife, Christy, grew up on the mission field of Mexico until her teenage years when her dad became a pastor in Silver City, New Mexico. Christy and I met at West Coast Baptist College, and shortly before I graduated in 2005, God called us to go to Mexico to start an orphanage. We were in Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico for 8½ years starting the orphanage and working alongside my father-in-law, Nelson Dorr, as he started a church on the same property as the orphanage. While in Mexico, God blessed us with two great boys, Nick and Sam. The orphanage was running well and no longer needed us, so we turned it over to my father-in-law, and God called us to McKee Road Baptist Church in Bakersfield, California. Pastor Fred Fies asked me to come be his assistant pastor, youth pastor, and Christian school principal. We worked with Pastor Fies for a year and half, but we knew that God was calling us back to the mission field, but this time He was calling us to Spain. In June of 2015, we joined Pine Bluff Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, which will be our sending church. I grew up in this church, and my youth pastor, Keith Smith, has now become the pastor; my dad still serves as the assistant pastor.
Our mission in Spain will be to go to the city of Palma de Mallorca, which is an island off the east coast of Spain, and start a church there. In the future it would be our desire to be able to train some of those who accept Christ as their Savior and help them plant churches in other cities in that same region. Cities all over Spain need churches, as less than 1% of them have a Bible believing churches.
